When reading only part of the id file, the ppos isn't tracked correctly. This is taken care by simple_read_from_buffer. Reading a single byte, and then the next byte would result EOF. While this seems like not a big deal, this breaks abstractions that reads information from files unbuffered. ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:

There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
